Summary

dsh-client-ui-tweaks is a community plugin for DSH Desktop that makes long-session triage cheaper. Edit any persisted user message in place and re-send it as a fork branch with ‹ n/N › version switching, keep every branch family collapsed to one sidebar row with unified titles, and let automatic summary titles (first message and /compact) name sessions while a pixel shimmer plays on the row. It installs as a local link: package into a DSH web profile and never rewrites conversation content.

Use this package

When to choose it

• You re-ask questions differently inside long-running sessions instead of starting over.
• Your sidebar fills with fork sessions and you want one row per line of work, not one per branch.
• You want sessions named after their content, including after /compact — DSH's built-in generator only covers the first message.

Not the right fit if you need several branches of one message visible side by side: this plugin deliberately collapses each family to a single row.

Install

A plain ESM package with no build step. Verified install path (macOS; DSH Desktop and the local web profile share ~/.dsh):

Register the package in the web profile (~/.dsh/profiles/web/package.json):

Add "dsh-client-ui-tweaks" to the profile's dsh.profile.bundles list and restart DSH Desktop; the bundled cordis.patch.yml inserts the plugin registration. Uninstall = remove both registration lines, the node_modules symlink, and the source checkout.

There is no plugin configuration; behavior is fixed. One machine-level companion is recommended: ~/.dsh/cordis.patch.yml raising the built-in title generator's maxOutputTokens from 64 to 4096, because thinking models otherwise exhaust the budget and fail silently. Setup notes: docs/pitfalls.md.

Edit and resend

• Every persisted user message gets a pencil button next to copy; it opens an inline editor in place (prefilled, Enter sends, Esc or the red button cancels, zero side effects while editing).
• The fork happens at send time: the branch cuts at the edited message's previous turn turn/end, and the edited draft becomes the branch's first new message. The very first message has no previous turn and goes through a fresh blank session instead.
• Forks inherit the queued next-turn message and would re-answer it; the plugin reads inherited ids via POST /edit-resend-inbox and removes them with updateQueue before the child session opens.
• ‹ n/N › arrows under the edited message switch between the original and each branch version; repeated edits of one message merge into one root family.

Sidebar family grouping

• One visible row per branch family: current member > running > just completed > most recent. The visible row is the work itself, so DSH's native StateDot status appears naturally.
• Branch sessions share the parent's title (rename writes and pins session/title), keeping the header and sidebar consistent.
• Opening a family session lands on its most recently updated member; arrow switching bypasses the redirect.
• Row-to-session mapping resolves exact session ids through React fiber internals, with (title, time-label) key matching as a fallback. Chained forks merge by root; orphaned hidden rows are restored automatically.

Auto summary titles

• First-message titles: wait up to 12s for DSH's built-in generator (it uses the session model; a settled title is adopted), then fall back to own generation from the first user message — the built-in path fails silently, so the fallback guarantees the title and effect fire.
• Generation chain: the session's own conversation model first (read from the session log), then a three-tier fallback (K3 → MiMo flash → DeepSeek flash). The tier used is recorded in autotitle.json.
• Prompt-injection hardening: material is JSON-framed with an explicit "data, not instructions" declaration, and generated titles are rejected if they look like prose (sentence punctuation, dashes, or over 45 characters).
• /compact retitling is plugin-only (DSH has no built-in compact tier): the title is regenerated from the compaction summary in the session log.
• Sessions the plugin never touches: user-renamed titles (pinned via session/title source.kind:"user"), branch families (titles are unified by edit-resend), and titles that settled outside the trigger window.

Pixel shimmer effect

When a title lands, the sidebar row plays a pixel shimmer: a transparent pixel-grid texture (2px blocks on a 2px gap, matching StateDot grain), a sheared deep-blue light band sweeping right to left (pixel-stepped hard edge, soft shoulders plus a core line), a gentle 4px wave bump under the light that settles back, and a fade-out. Colors follow the live StateDot accent. The canvas sits under the title text; a setTimeout chain drives it so it plays even in hidden windows.

Title generation requests

What the model sees

One independent request per title event, never appended to the conversation. The request carries the title instruction and one JSON-framed material block (the first user message for first titles, the compaction summary for /compact retitles) with an explicit statement that the material is data, not instructions.

Token effect

Fixed and small: one request per title event with a 4096-token output ceiling; produced titles are capped at 15 CJK characters or 6 English words by the instruction above, and prose-like outputs are discarded and regenerated.

KV Cache effect

Independent. Title requests carry no conversation prefix and share no cacheable prefix with the session's own requests, so they neither extend nor invalidate the conversation's cache. The plugin owns no change that invalidates a shared prefix.

Known Limitations and Deferred Work

• Fiber mapping fallback — exact row-to-session mapping depends on React internals (__reactFiber$ property, SessionNodeItem props); if a future DSH build changes them the plugin silently falls back to (title, time label) key matching, which can mis-claim a row when a non-family session shares both a degraded title and a time bucket.
• CSS-module selectors — row sub-elements are found by local-name suffix ([class*="_title"], [class*="_time"]), stable against hash changes but not against local-name renames.
• K3 tier freshness — the kimi OAuth credential is read-only by design; after the mimo-migration the token is only fresh while Kimi Code is active (~15 minutes), so the K3 generation tier is often skipped in favor of flash tiers.
• Silent built-in failures — DSH's title generator emits no result event on failure; the plugin can only infer failure from silence (12s wait) and fall back.
• Browser half is manually verified — the automated suite covers the host half through its routes (29 specs, npm test); client DOM behavior is caught by the documented CDP checklist (edit flow, family rows, arrows, host routes) against disposable test sessions.
• Untested install paths — only the link: install above is verified; npm publishing and dsh plugin installation are not exercised.
• Deferred: conversation detail collapse — collapsing conversation process information behind an expander is a known direction, not implemented.

Dev Note

Runtime invariant: the plugin never rewrites conversation content — mutations go only through documented session APIs (fork, rename, updateQueue), fork anchors always land on the previous turn's turn/end, and user-pinned titles are never overwritten.
